The term “catracho” is a colloquial nickname used to refer to people from Honduras. Its origin is rooted in Honduran history. During the period of Central American federation in the 19th century, Honduran politician Florencio Xatruch played a significant role in leading Honduran troops. The soldiers under his command were referred to as “Xatruch’s boys” or “los hijos de Xatruch” in Spanish. Over time, the term “Xatruch” morphed into “Catruch,” and eventually, “Catracho” became a commonly used nickname for Hondurans. Today, “catracho” is embraced as a term of endearment and pride among the people of Honduras.
